Yuzu, The Scent of Winter❄
One of the iconic winter scenes in Japan is yuzu (a type of citrus fruit). I love the scent of yuzu, I can't resist smelling them when I see them at the store. Their vibrant yellow color, along with their refreshing and fresh fragrance, uplifts my spirits.
This yuzu fruit, however, has a slightly bitter and tangy taste. Some people use it in cooking, adding just a touch to enhance the flavor and appearance, but it's also delicious when sweetened. So, I decided to make yuzu honey and yuzu jam.
They both were a success. You can spread them on bread, add them to yogurt, mix them with hot water, and use them in many other ways. They also keep well, so I can enjoy them for a long time!
Speaking of yuzu, in Japan, there's a custom of taking a yuzu bath on the winter solstice. The pronunciation of "winter solstice" in Japanese (toji) is the same as "hot spring cure" (toji). Perhaps that's why it's said that taking a yuzu bath on the winter solstice helps you get through the winter without catching a cold.
